CURRY LEAVES CHICKEN CURRY-Kariveppilai Chicken Curry

Ingredients

Chicken – 500gms.
Onion chopped – 1 nos.
Ginger crushed – 1 nos.
Garlic crushed – 6 nos.
Green chilli – as needed.
Turmeric powder – ¼ tbsp.
Coriander powder – ½ tbsp.

For the masala

Whole Pepper – 1 tbsp.
Cinnamon – 1nos.
Fennel seeds – ¼ tbsp.
Cloves – 6 nos.
Star anise – 1 nos.
Cardamon – 6 nos.

Yogurt – 3 tbsp.
Curry leaves – 3 handful.

Method

Heat a pan. Add curry leaves, saute for a couple of minutes. Move to a bowl and keep aside.

To the same pan add all the ingredients listed under ‘ for the masala ‘ . Saute for a minute and move to a bowl.

Grind masala and curry leaves in a mixie.

Heat oil in a pan. Add onion, ginger, garlic and green chillies. Saute for a couple of minutes.

Turn heat to medium. Add turmeric powder, saute for a minute.

Add coriander powder, saute till fried.

Add chicken , masala, yogurt and salt. Mix well. Cover and cook at medium flame. Switch off flame. Move to a serving dish and Enjoy!!!

  • I made this dish, exactly as you described, and it turned out really well.  The cardamom was a bit strong initially, but after a couple of hours, it mellowed out.  A bit of lemon juice at the end would have been good, I think; I will add that next time.
